LOST Season 4 - Episode 1: The Beginning of the End

Finally! Die hard fans have been waiting a loooong time. And I think we were well rewarded.

Personally I was a bit disappointed only because I read some local reviews from critics and while they were limited in what they could say due to spoilers, the underlying comment was “OMG.”

It opens with a flash forward, somewhat a continuation from Season 3’s finale. And once again in LA. Hurley leads LAPD on a car chase. He’s caught and exclaims “don’t you know who I am? I’m part of the Oceanic Six.” Hell of an opening! So now we know Jack, Kate, and Hurley made it off. One more might have made it…as there was a funeral for someone in Season 3.

Cut back to the island. And what’s going on there? Well we find out Naomi wasn’t really dead…well just yet. And the survivors on the beach meet up with the main party.

Back, no wait, forward in time to LA, Hurley is admitted to a hospital. And we learn what spooked him…visions of Charlie. You’ll see dead people often in this show btw….

Back on the island…Locke meets up with the main party. The party factions off into two sides, those who stick with Jack and think they’ll be rescued, and those that stick with Locke for shelter from the impending threat who he believes aren’t who they claim to be.

And so it begins….15 more episodes to go.

I’ll give this an 8 outta 10. Exciting, but not the “top” episode of all time. I think it’s higher just because it’s been so long too!

GENERAL LOST STUFF…

ABC is making a big pitch that it’s not too late for new users with the tag line “it’s not to late to get LOST” Admittedly that has been the difficulty with the series, if you haven’t caught up on the previous seasons, can you really relate with what’s going on now? I have to say it is difficult to truly get “into” the show unless you’ve seen previous seasons.

Lost - The Complete First Season was awesome. I don’t think future seasons will ever compare to the first moments. As with anything, the newness, the way it is filmed, the characters, the numbers, all came together in what is I’ll say the finest shows of our generation. (Can you tell I’m a fan?)

Lost - The Complete Second Season dragged a bit. But it’s hard not to see it. Think of not watching ‘Empire Strikes Back’ but seeing Star Wars and ROTJ. Still, I would say so far the finale for Season 2 was better than season 1.

Lost - The Complete Third Season rated somewhere between Season 1 and 2 in rating. I’d say the first half was slow and less interesting. The second half rocked. And the finale for Season 3 was the best so far. I’ll just leave it at that….
